The Key to This Week’s Super Mario Maker Update
This week, Nintendo released an update for Super Mario Maker. The update brought some new tools to Super Mario Maker’s creator. I’ll tell you about these new tools and what I think of them so far.
Every time Nintendo updates Super Mario Maker, I can’t wait to see what the new tools will be and how they’ll work. This week Nintendo added some new items to put into levels. My favorite of these new tools is a key. The key can be put into a question mark block, attached to a boss that you have to defeat, or you can collect red coins in order to earn the key. These new red coins can be placed throughout a level, either to be obtained easily or used as a new challenge in a level. There are, of course, key doors now that can be placed around the stage too!
I really like the key and key doors. I think these tools will be great for adding more challenge or puzzles to levels. I like the idea of having to defeat a boss to get a key! I think the red coins are pretty cool too. There is one more item in the update that I’m less sure about though.
You can also now change the Thwomps into a bigger and meaner version of them. I haven’t played around with this very much yet. It seems ok, but its probably my least favorite part of the update. Do we really need these bigger Thwomps? Well, I’m sure someone will come up with a creative way to use them!
Nintendo also adjusted some other things in the update. I haven’t fully explored those parts of the update. Its definitely the new tools that I have my eye on! I have started to include the keys in a level I was already creating and I have started to create a new level with all these new tools too (yes even the bigger Thwomp). The levels are a work in progress, so I don’t have a level code to share with you today. I will share the code sooner or later on my twitter account @df2506! Please keep an eye out for my level(s).
What do you think of the new update? Are you going to create a level with these new tools?
