LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Wild Safari Animals Review
When The LEGO Group reached out and asked if we would like to review the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Wild Safari Animals set, I admit I wasn’t overly enthused. I’m a bit hot and cold on 3 in 1 sets – I think some are fantastic, particularly the houses you can get – but I find most of them don’t peak my interest like other LEGO sets do.
I said yes for two reasons. First, LEGO reviews perform really well here, so we obviously love to do them. That’s why from time-to-time you’ll see reviews posted here with sets we purchased for our kids. They do that well. Second, my kids are ALWAYS up for a LEGO review opportunity. So with all that said, we took the dive.
Building the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Wild Safari Animals set was a lot of fun. For the purpose of the review, we built all three options in the box, before ultimately settling on the giraffe as the one we wanted to keep constructed.
All three builds were a lot of fun, and I was surprised to see how many of the pieces were actually used in all the sets. Sometimes I find that Creator sets leave a lot of pieces off to the side, and storing those can be a pain just in case you want to build something different later. The lion and the gazelle are fantastic in their own ways, but the giraffe is the highlight of the box here for sure.
This set is large, and understandably so considering the price. In fact, I do believe this is one of the more expensive 3 in 1 Creator sets you can purchase. I would argue, however, that for the price you pay, you get a good amount of LEGO in the box. Nothing stands out as particularly unique or rare, but it’s a decent sized set for what you pay, and it looks phenomenal when completed.
I find that LEGO Creator sets are rarely really unique and fun builds when compared to the LEGO Ideas lineup and the 18+ LEGO sets. That’s not a knock either, as these sets are for a wider audience while the other two themes I mentioned cater to adults. I thought the use of LEGO pieces in this build was phenomenal, and when finished, you could have fooled me if you said this was in fact a LEGO Ideas creation.
There is a lot of detail in the giraffe, especially in the facial region. The use of the microphone pieces as ears, for example, was something you’d see more often in those “display” sets that adults tend to buy. Great use of pieces is evident throughout the build, and while it was not overly complicated (Lochlan built this himself), it was some of the most fun he’s had building a LEGO set this year. And yes, he said it trumped building the Fortnite Battle Bus.
When people buy sets as gifts I think the entertainment and “fun” derived from actually building the set gets overlooked, and people purchase sets for their aesthetic features, or perhaps how easily it might factor into imaginative play.
At GamesReviews, we value both those things, but it’s the build process that gets us the most excited. And I can say with a lot of certainty that this build from The LEGO Group is another top notch option in 2024. Looking for a holiday gift for an animal lover in your life? You cannot go wrong here!
