Magic Band+ is Brilliant

I’ll begin this article by stating one thing that will become apparent if you a) purchase your own Magic Band+ or b) watch videos of others using their Magic Band+. It doesn’t always work, and that can be super frustrating. However, when it is working flawlessly (which is usually what happens) there is a lot of joy to be had. Now I would say that perhaps there is more fun here for kids than adults, but there is fun none the less.

Walt Disney World Canada PR was nice enough to set us up with a few Lightning Lane entries for our three day trip to Walt Disney World in mid-March, and we used those to the max checking out some of Disney’s greatest animatronics! You can read that article here. One other thing we wanted to write about, as it fit our tech focused site, was the brilliance of Magic Band+.
Many years ago, Disney created the Magic Band which went on your wrist like a watch, and allowed you to use it to enter parks (with a ticket), open your resort room, make purchases around Walt Disney World, and activate fast pass / lightning lane opportunities. These use to be given to resort guests upon check in, and while that perk is now gone, the benefits of these bands still make them a worthwhile purchase. You can even accessorize them, much like you do to a pair of Crocs!
A few years ago, Disney released a better version of the Magic Band, lovingly called the Magic Band+. This device promised more guest interactions and experience, along with all the other Magic Band perks.
We only saw the brilliance of the device at Magic Kingdom and Epcot, but there are cool things that can happen at all the parks. Want some cool nighttime light up opportunities to enhance those amazing Magic Kingdom fireworks? Magic Band plus now pulses away and lights up to the songs and sounds of the fireworks.
Ever wondered what those gold statues all over Walt Disney World are for? Wave your Magic Band+ around them to hear characters shoutout some popular catch phrases. Kids, especially, are going to enjoy this really cool feature. You get a “find them all” joy of locating a new statue and seeing what it has to say.
One feature I probably would have liked to experience myself was using the device in Galaxies Edge at Hollywood Studios. Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters is a guest favorite I’ve heard, and I look forward to experiencing it in the future.
One other great perks is that Magic Band+ can be used on Disney Cruise Line as well, and we will experience that soon when we sail on the Disney Treasure in August. Stay tuned for our thoughts on that trip in early Fall!
The Canada Resident Ticket Offer is available for bookings made before the end of April. There is more info here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_CA/special-offers/canada-resident-ticket-offer-2025/
