Lego Horizon Adventures Review
LEGO Horizon Adventures is a delightful fusion of the iconic LEGO aesthetic and the captivating world of Horizon Zero Dawn. This action-adventure game offers a unique and charming experience, perfect for both longtime Horizon fans and newcomers alike.
A World Reimagined in Bricks
The game’s most striking feature is undoubtedly its visual style. The lush landscapes and towering machines of the Horizon universe are reimagined with LEGO’s signature brick-built charm. From the intricate details of the Nora tribe’s clothing to the imposing scale of the colossal machines, every element is lovingly crafted with LEGO bricks. This one is 100% the best looking LEGO game to date, and it’s not even close.
Gameplay: A Balanced Blend of Exploration and Combat
LEGO Horizon Adventures offers a well-balanced gameplay experience. Players can explore the open world, discover hidden secrets, and solve puzzles. The combat system, while simplified compared to the original Horizon games, is still engaging and satisfying. Players can chain together attacks, use powerful abilities, and strategically deploy gadgets to defeat enemies.
The game’s co-op mode is a standout feature, allowing players to team up with friends and family to tackle challenges together. Whether it’s solving puzzles, defeating powerful machines, or simply exploring the world, co-op play adds a new dimension of fun and camaraderie.
A Humorous Take on a Serious World
While the Horizon series is known for its mature themes and intense storytelling, LEGO Horizon Adventures takes a more lighthearted approach. The game is filled with humorous dialogue, playful animations, and plenty of LEGO-style humor. This tonal shift works surprisingly well, injecting life and personality into the familiar world. It’s definitely a much lighter experience that is perfect to introduce to younger audience who might not be ready for the main game as of yet.
A Few Minor Quibbles
While LEGO Horizon Adventures is a fantastic game, it’s not without its flaws. Some players may find the open world to be a bit repetitive, with similar enemy encounters and puzzle types. Some of the customization options are really out of place, in spirit it fits the perfect LEGO vibe, to use your imagination and suspend reality. But I would have preferred an experience that covers BOTH games and expansions vs having LEGO City elements that don’t fit the narrative. Overall, the game is a little short running me about 10 hours to complete. While I am grateful this isn’t as much of a collector thon and break everything in sight to get studs, I would have preferred a longer experience.
Overall, LEGO Horizon Adventures is a must-play for fans of both the LEGO and Horizon franchises. It offers a unique and enjoyable experience that captures the essence of both series. With its charming visuals, engaging gameplay, and humorous tone, it’s a game that’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
