Capture is a psychological horror game that immerses players in a dizzying and creepy experience. Here’s an in-depth review based on its gameplay and features:

The Captured game is all about attention to detail and finding anomalies. The players are trapped in a never-ending corridor in their own home, where minor variations in the environment—such as objects vanishing, water leakage, or distortion of the rooms—need to be found and clicked using a camera. Players need to accurately identify and record the anomalies in order to move forward. Errors reset the progress and introduce tension and difficulty.

Procedural corridor creation ensures that no two play sessions are the same, so gamers never get used to the setup. The streamlined user interface and realistic visuals intensify the analog horror ambiance, like being brought back to mind by the eerie nostalgia of ’90s VHS tapes.

Captured does a great job of creating a sustained state of fear without relying on jump scares. Its analog horror setting, paired with realistic visuals and procedurally-generated challenges, creates an antique but foreboding atmosphere. The circular design of the gameplay, although narrative in the game, might try the patience of some players. However, to individuals who prefer to immerse themselves in atmospheric horrors, such is all part of the experience.

Captured stands out among horror games for its blend of analog appearances with interactive gameplay that challenges players’ perceptions. Its focus on environmental awareness and tension in the player’s mind creates a chillingly different experience. It’s not for all, but atmospheric horror game players owe it to themselves to try it.

Married and father of 3 children he has been gaming since the ripe age of 6 when he got his first NES system and over 30 years later he is still gaming almost daily. Kevin is also co-founder of the Play Some Video Games (PSVG) Podcast network which was founded over five years ago and is still going strong. Some of his favorite gaming series includes Fallout and Far Cry, he is a sucker for single player adventure games (hence his big reviews for Playstation), and can frequently be found getting down in one battle royale or another. If it's an oddball game, odds are he's all about it.
