Top 5 Video Game Releases for May 2018
In the world of gaming May 2018 is the perfect time to hunker down for a slice of creative wizardry. This month you can pick and choose from five new games titles with unique and distinctive themes, plots, imagery and animations.
Once you’ve had your fill of the paid entertainment featuring androids, adventurers, buccaneers and a cute collective of agile, active and boisterously brave Kongs, you can expand your horizons by playing free games featuring the kiss of the online casino.
So… what can you anticipate in the way of sizzling hot entertainment mid-way through 2018? Here are the top video game releases scheduled for May this year:
Moonlighter
Moonlighter is a fab little action RPG that features anime-like graphics and a central player character called Will. He’s a standard shopkeeper by day who moonlights as an intrepid adventurer by night. The action takes place around Rynoka, a rural village that sprung up organically around a mysterious set of gates.
These gates act as a portal to a network of ancient passages that transport Will and a contingent of the bravest villager companions into a host of exotic realms and dimensions. You’ll have the opportunity to sharpen your commercial activities as Will the affable shopkeeper, where forming relationships with key villagers can pay dividends. Once night falls it’s time to fine tune your battle tactics as you visit different worlds where dastardly enemies lie in wait.
Moonlighter is the latest creation from the Digital Sun Games studios and is due for release on May 29th 2018. You can dive into this refreshing little treasure-generator on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
The 5th instalment of the Donkey Kong Country series has all the super-duper features – and then some – that have helped propel the plucky primate family to global gaming stardom. In Tropical Freeze Donkey Kong is the principal player character who has the support of a family of player companions… Diddy, Dixie, Cranky and Funky Kong.
Each companion has unique capabilities designed to expedite your quest which, in the case of the latest edition from Retro Studios, is to traverse a host of different islands in an attempt to reclaim Kong island from the wicked Snowmads.
There’s a Kong-Pow meter that can help you defeat all the enemies onscreen in one fell swoop and cool new controls that allow you to retrieve items from the ground and pick up and toss your adversaries into in-game cyberspace. Keep a sharp eye out for the usual puzzle pieces and Kong letters as they unlock secret levels and big bad bonuses.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Nintendo Switch makes its way onto the shelves on 4th May 2018.
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
In the sequel to the award-winning Pillars of Eternity The Watcher returns to centre stage… albeit in a severely weakened state. Despite his injuries the principal player character is in good enough shape to pursue the omnipotent and unforgiving god Eothas in an effort to avenge the deaths and destruction wrought by his key adversary.
As the title suggests Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is set in a new open world known as the Deadfire Archipelago. You, in the form of The watcher, will sail the high seas with a team of four customisable associates, travelling from island to island capturing ships, looting treasure and defeating adversaries en route.
The action-packed RPG is fresh from the Obsidian Entertainment production lines and will be released for Microsoft Windows, MacOS and Linux on the 8th of May and a little later in the year for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
State of Decay 2
State of Decay 2 is the sequel to the 2013 Zombie survival game that took the world by storm. This time it’s up to you to create a safe haven for the few survivors who have outsmarted the legions of undead that roam a deadly open world looking for fresh prey.
The all-new multiplayer survival fantasy game provides a unique player experience as the decisions you make affect how the open world responds in real-time. Your task is to build a community, network with ‘friendly’ allies, construct a zombie-proof base and manage the available resources in order to survive – and hopefully thrive – in a dark, dangerous and decidedly unwelcoming post-apocalyptic environment.
The long-awaited sequel from Undead Labs is due out for Xbox One and PC on May 22nd.
Detroit: Become Human
Detroit: Become Human is set in a futuristic Detroit where androids are a dime a dozen… on the streets and in the factories, homes, offices and hospitals. You’ll have the opportunity to play three robotic characters – Kara, Markus and Connor – all of whom are sophisticated and intelligent. In fact, they are so intelligent they have the capabilities to think for themselves!
Kara is a newly engineered housekeeper that has somehow developed advanced machine intelligence that makes her more human than android. Markus is a super-smart carer of a disabled artist and the unlikely organiser of robotic deviants intent on snapping the shackles of human control. Connor is a cyborg cop tasked with hunting down and destroying these deviants while doing the job of a standard policeman on the side.
Detroit: Become Human will be available on May 25th for PS4 only.
