The Lost Child Preview

Sometimes, reviewers have it hard. We have to review some pretty awful games occasionally. We do this so you don’t have to play them. And then there are other times when we play a game that we know is good, but, personally, we don’t really care for it. I think I hit upon one of the latter games lately. I have been playing The Lost Child by NIS America for review. I know the game is good, but its not…

E3 2018 – Nintendo Booth Tour

Nintendo at E3 2018 was a blast! We went back to visit my colleagues as the Nintendo Booth of E3 again this year. We had a lovely exchange and then Julie took me up to play the upcoming Nintendo Switch titles. Thank again to Nintendo of Canada for setting us up with this fantastic opportunity, as well as Julie for the fantastic tour once again!

Nintendo Back to Being Nintendo – Third Party Woes? Nah.

After a strong first year which saw the Nintendo Switch get great support from many third party developers, E3 2018 seems to be signing a very different tune for the remainder of the year, and into 2019. While many games are coming to the system - and a good amount of 3rd party support as well - some of it is not coming soon enough, and some is not coming at all. Nintendo has a successful console on their hands with the Nintendo Switch, there is no doubt about that. But can it survive on it's own franchises unlike its predecessor, the Wii U?

Mobile Gaming Industry Trends 2018

The mobile gaming industry has seen consistent growth over the past decade or so, as more people use their smartphones for entertainment and competition. Although 2016 was an exciting year for mobile gaming breakthroughs, including the release of the legendary Pokémon Go, 2017 continued those trends, paving the way for an excellent year to come. As technology advances and developers continue to give us stunning releases, 2018 has also shaped up to be a special year for gaming. Industry Growth…

More Thoughts From Me #122: Nintendo Will Rule E3 2018

The Nintendo Switch is one of the most popular systems right now. And Nintendo is bringing Smash Bros Switch to E3 this year and releasing the game this year too. So what else do you need? Does Nintendo actually need anything else? I think a lot of people would just be happy if they showed a lot of Smash Bros and nothing else. But…Nintendo won’t be happy with just Smash Bros this E3. Oh no. And while Smash will get…

More Thoughts From Me #121: Microsoft Will Shock Us At E3 2018

Microsoft has been playing it safe lately. Too safe. They just keep letting third parties take the lead and keep releasing revisions of the Xbox One. And they are lagging behind Playstation and the Switch. Microsoft needs to shake things up. And so, here are my wild and most likely completely wrong predictions of what they’ll do at E3 to shock us all. There will be no new Xbox hardware at E3 2018. Instead, Microsoft will pummel us with reasons…

Real Life Gaming Skills

Gaming takes you to an imaginary and purposeless world. Or at least, this was the argument of many concerned parents – and it still continues to be. Ultimately, the hyper commercialisation of video games has made it easier for non-gamers to understand the advantages of video games. But for those parents still doubt the real life benefits of gaming, here’s a little article to enlighten you about how playing games can help people to develop useful skills and abilities in…

Detective Pikachu Review

Even if you are not a long time fan of the Pokémon franchise, there is one thing you probably do know: Pokémon don’t talk to humans and humans don’t talk to Pokémon. Sure, based on emotions of a Pokémon - or even their actions - a good trainer can determine what a Pokémon is thinking or feeling; but to actually talk to one? That is basically unheard of. So when we learned about the popular Japanese Detective Pikachu and that it was going to be brought over to the West, I was incredibly skeptical. I wasn’t onboard with talking Pikachu. So how did this colour ...

Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom Review

Japanese Roll Playing Games go with PlayStation like butter on bread, but not all JRPG experiences are the same, in terms of storyline, game mechanics, or overall quality. In 2018 - and when compared to what was released in 2017 - I firmly believe that Ni No Kuni 2 rises to the top, as one of the premier JRPG titles currently available on the PS4. While there are some questions around the games overall difficulty, and perhaps lack of variety at times, the overall package works really well, and is definitely a worthwhile purchase!
