Nintendo Switch 2 Will Update Nintendo Switch Games
As shown in today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo plans to release updates for some past Nintendo Switch titles to enhance them on Nintendo Switch 2. This does make a ton of sense, allowing Nintendo to quickly expand their initial game base by simply releasing updates for old titles.
A few games were shown off during the Direct, including updates to Mario Party Jamboree, and the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As I figured, some updates will be more impressive than others, but updates are welcomed none the less.
It does look like this will come at a cost, however, although what that cost is we don’t know. Is it one price they will use across all titles, or different prices depending on what’s being updated or changed? Only time will tell!
The updates to Mario Party look incredible, taking full advantage of the new Nintendo Switch 2 camera and voice control. There are also going to be new mini games that utilize the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse capabilities. While I’m a bit skeptical of how well these games will work, I’m intrigued by it nonetheless!
Other updates, like the ones for Zelda and Kirby seem to be a bit more muted. Zelda will get new map features and helpful tools that will make the game more enjoyable, but isn’t quite the update that Mario Party is. The same can be said for Kirby.
This upgrade feature will also allow Nintendo to release games on both platforms for the remainder of 2025 and may be into 2026 as well, keeping longtime and loyal Nintendo Switch fans happy with new games, while also providing just a bit extra to Nintendo Switch 2 owners. This is a great way to bridge the gap between the past generation and the new generation of Nintendo.
We will see more of these upgrades soon when the Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025.
