Battle Chasers: Nightwar Review
Battle Chasers: Nightwar is based on a 90s comic book by artist Joe Madureira. The game was recently released on the Nintendo Switch eshop. We received a review code and checked it out. Is Battle Chasers: Nightwar a good game?
Battle Chasers: Nightwar’s story is very interesting. I do wish I had read the comics so that I knew the main characters better, but you don’t need to have read the comics to enjoy this game’s story and dialogue. I do feel that Battle Chase’s gameplay is even better than its story though.
The turn-based battle system in Battle Chasers is fantastic. It is old school in all the right ways, while also being quicker than old school battle systems ever were. I enjoy the combat a lot.
Battle Chasers also has a wonderful overworld and excellent dungeon exploration. There are a lot of items (and enemies) to find in both!
The exploration in this game, along with the combat, makes Battle Chasers a lot of fun. And the game has really good controls too. There is one major issue that holds it back from be a perfect game though.
Every time you go into a new area there is long load time. Not only that but some of the battles in this game have a short load time and these load times seem pretty random. Sometimes there are no load times at all.
I do not think that the load times break this game; I do think people should know going into the game that sometimes the action stops because of loading. I usually got out my 3DS and looked online a little while the game loaded. Even so, I do believe that Battle Chasers is well worth downloading.
Battle Chasers is an excellent rpg addition to the Nintendo Switch eshop. Don’t let the long load times scare you off. If you like rpgs and have a Switch, you should get this game. Its fun and its great to look at too!
Battle Chasers will impress players right away with an animated cutscene before you even press start and then again with a fantastic comic book style opening cutscene. You’ll see more of these comic cutscenes throughout the game and they are always a treat.
Overall, Battle Chasers is a good looking game. I was especially wowed by the battle system’s graphics, but I like the dungeon visuals and the overworld map are good too. Battle Chasers looks best in handheld mode where you can easy read the game’s dialogue and menus, but the graphics do look good on the TV. Battle Chasers is a good looking game no matter where you play it.
However, it should be noted that the game does have some occasional framerate issues. Its just an every so often issue, though it is noticable.
As for the game’s music, its pretty good. The sound effects in this game are even better! I was especially impressed by the in-battle effects.
If you love rpgs, then you should check out Battle Chasers. Its a great game.
Battle Chasers: Nightwar is an excellent rpg for the Nintendo Switch. I do wish the load times in this game were a lot shorter and that it didn’t have the framerate hiccups, but everything else about this game is great. If you are looking for another rpg to play on your Nintendo Switch, Battle Chasers should definitly be high your list to download.
A digital code was provided for this review. Battle Chasers: Nightwar is out now for the Nintendo Switch eshop.
