Nintendo to host Super Smash Bros 3DS Tournament at Comic-Con
At E3, Nintendo made sure that everyone knew one, very important thing: Super Smash Bros on the Wii U was awesome, and that everyone should buy Super Smash Bros on the Wii U. What was almost forgotten at E3 was that the game would also be releasing on 3DS. Nintendo chose to highlight the Wii U version then, and many questioned what exactly was going on with the 3DS version.
With the 3DS version launching this October, it seemed almost necessary for Nintendo to do something to create some hype and excitement. With the success of the Smash Bros tournament at E3, Nintendo has decided to host another tournament using the 3DS version of the game. Fans attending Comic-Con in San Diego will be able to enter and watch a 3DS Smash Bros Tournament. Do not be surprised if more 3DS details are unofficially revealed during this tournament, including stages and characters we may not have yet seen.
Once again, Nintendo will be broadcasting on their Twitch channel. While this will be nice touch for those that want to watch the tournament from their homes, it also holds other significance. Nintendo is becoming more in touch with what gamers are looking for in 2014. While Twitch streaming from Nintendo devices is still unavailable, we can still enjoy the fact that Nintendo is slowly – sometimes too slowly – understanding the market, and what players want.
The tournament at Comic-Con will run on July 25th. Nintendo UK will also have a tournament set up later this month at Hyper-Japan. Super Smash Bros on the 3DS launches on October 3rd.
