Zoe Quinn #GamerGate Rape Fiction removed from Amazon
#GamerGate is a controversy that has spawned many things: memes, updated disclosure policies and much, much more. Now hardcore porn fiction can be added to that list.
A short Ebook entitled Roughed Up By #GamerGape was released on Amazon. It has since been removed.
The description of the book read:
Zada Quinby is a controversial video game designer who may have crossed the line. When her latest game offends the nation, five upset players decide to teach her a lesson. This gang of gamers decides to give Zada of piece of their mind, and much more!
There’s no indication as to the political bias of Valeria O., the writer of the piece, although she has written several other racy books under different pseudonyms. Of course, both sides have claimed to have nothing to do with it and both claim to have a part in it being removed.
While an odd thing to base a porn novel around, #GamerGate has had a large impact of social media in recent months and this short piece was probably more a misguided attempt at cashing in on a topical event as opposed a statement of any kind. The book seems to have been on sale for only a short time before disappearing.
UPDATE
It appears as though the short story’s author has come out of the woodwork. It’s not yet confirmed.
From Reddit:
The book was a little tasteless but no worse than any cheesy porno parody. “Who’s Nail’n Palin,” or any big budget adult work is probably just as raunchy. Additionally, Amazon had approved the book since it met their standards and guidelines. The title was what’s often known as dubcon where consent is a bit sketchy (to the reader) at first, but then there’s a big twist where the girl was playing the guys the whole time and was cool with everything that happened (there are millions of titles like this on Amazon).
Secondly, no #GamerGate supporters were even mentioned. The tale involved five guys fooling around in a burger joint with a female game designer. It wasn’t a #GamerGate thing (I actually just chose the title because I’d heard about the Five Guys thing and wanted to write a group sex story themed around that idea. #GamerGape was a pun that conveniently worked for a title).
Lastly, this book was written by a woman for women! I repeat, the author is a woman.
