PS4 Firmware 1.52 Released
The first post-release firmware update has been released for the PlayStation 4, and it’s a little underwhelming. While you’d hope the switch to next-gen might encourage Sony to open up a little bit about what’s changed between firmware versions, the explanation for 1.52 is simply that it “improves system stability.”
Now there’s every possibility that that is literally what it does. I’m sure I’m not alone in noticing that there’s been a few crashes here and there, and I’d like to think this update will stop this from happening. Still, it’d be nice to know exactly what isn’t going to happen any more.
There’s usually a few hidden features alongside these updates as well, although nothing concrete has been found as of yet. Some have reported that their USB wireless headsets are now working, although without concrete information on brand and such, it’s hard to pin down if this is an actual upgrade or if it’s just people noticing it for the first time.
If you have automatic download on and have left your console in stand-by, it should update automatically while you’re out and about (or it’ll at least download the 300MB file so you can install at your return). If not, it’s not too huge a download and, with the firmware update system slightly improved over the PS3 version, it shouldn’t take too long to sort itself out.
