Hackers Make Wii U Tablet Stream From PC
Hackers have managed to get the Wii U Tablet working without the Wii U console, a feat that will no doubt significantly raise the interest in the Wii U controller for the gaming demographic that enjoying playing video games while sat on the toilet. It’s not all good news though: Nintendo still don’t sell the gamepads separately, and that might make attaining one without buying a console rather difficult.
Still, the good news is that it works, and the possibilities are endless. As the guys behind this hack demonstrate, it means you can even play Wind Waker!
Ok, so it’s still pretty cool that that’s running from the Dolphin Wii/Gamecube emulator, and that the possibilities that open up are vast. It doesn’t stop there either. In the long run, there’s no reason that the code being used here couldn’t be used on other devices, to stream countless programs. There isn’t a proper public release yet – what is available is mostly for developers – but in the long run, there’s every reason to believe a Windows/Mac version will be released.
How Nintendo are going to react to this hack will be interesting. While it doesn’t directly affect them just yet – the people who’ll get use out of this are unlikely to spend £5 on a twenty year old game anyway – there’s no doubt that they’ll want to stomp it out before it gets too big. Could they, even if they tried?
