Classic Sonic hitting 3DS eShop
When you’re talking gaming classics, there are few titles that actually manage to live up to that word. The medium just hasn’t been around long enough, nor did it have the early popularity, to create the level of icon that early-ish film did. If anybody, Sonic the Hedgehog deserves to be one of those gaming icons, and his first adventure is coming to the 3DS eShop in the UK this week.
3D Sonic the Hedgehog is exactly what it sounds like. The original classic, viewable in 3D. This will add little to the game itself – you run along a 2D plane, the background and foreground don’t really matter – but it does make it visually nicer. If nothing else, you’re getting yet another version of Sonic the Hedgehog, this time with the ability to play on the move (from a handheld Nintendo console…).
Coming alongside it is Altered Beast. While lesser known than Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast was a pack-in game and so was probably the first game that many of us played on the Mega Drive/Genesis. It’s also famous for its opening line, “Rise from your grave.”
Both games are welcome additions to the 3DS and UK gamers can pick them up this week.
