Beholder: Complete Edition

Usually Sim games are fun, laid back experiences but…what if there was a sim where you lived a life that wasn’t fun or laid back? Instead, you are an apartment manager in a communist country where everyone is looking over their shoulder and has no idea who to trust. As the manager, you move people into the building, move them out, help them, turn them in, or blackmail them. The choice is up to you. Welcome to Beholder: Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch.

Beholder: Complete Edition is a simulation game where you manage an apartment…and turn people into the state for cash! The world of Beholder is dark and depressing. So is the game’s story, which mostly depends on the actions you take. Will you turn somebody in? Blackmail them? Try to help them? Its up to you.

I really like the concept of Beholder and the gameplay, while a bit slow at times, is really good overall. It reminds me of Fallout Shelter without the humor, if that makes sense. You determine who will be in those apartments, who gets kicked out, and theres a bunch of other stuff to do in this game. Oh and you can die, so watch out (so can your family, as I found out).

Beholder’s controls are pretty simple and easy to learn too. The game is a 2D affair, so you don’t have to worry about changing camera angles or anything more complex than walking around, going to the next floor(s), and interacting with people and objects. I think just about anyone could play this game if they wanted to.

And Beholder looks great in handheld mode! On the TV, it does look good but its much easier to read menus and navigate the game in general in handheld mode. The graphics are dark and moody. They are also very detailed. Each of the charactes in the game look different, while also sharing the same stylish noir look. Beholder is a good looking game.

If you love simulation games, then you might want to check this game out. Its dark storyline and setting won’t be for everyone though.

Beholder: Complete Edition doesn’t pull any punches. People can die depending on your actions. This is a simulation game unlike any I’ve played before. Its a really great game and well worth checking out!

Beholder: Complete Edition gets a 9.0 out of 10

Thanks to Plan of Attack for providing a review code for this game. Beholder: Complete Edition is now available on the Nintendo Switch eshop!
