Watch Dogs Wii U is a Bust

The sales figures are out, and Watch Dogs Wii U has done about as well as anybody expected it would.

While Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Brothers U continue to dominate, Watch Dogs didn’t even manage to get into the top ten. Instead, it floundered at the 14 mark, barely beating the likes of Mass Effect 3.

These are from new figures released by the GFK, who also revealed that Sonic Boom managed to get to number three in the charts, despite issues that have upset hardcore fans of the franchise.

Considering the amount of time it’s taken to release the Wii U version, as well as issues with quality and a lack of advertising, this isn’t a surprise. No, people have been talking about the abandoned Wii U version since there were rumours of it being cancelled, a situation that may have worked out better for Ubisoft and Nintendo.

As it stands, it’s impossible to know for sure how many sales this actually equals, but judging by the lacklustre software sales of many of the titles on the list, and considering its position, it’s hard to think that it’s anything more than a few thousand. Software sales are already incredibly low when you get out of the top three or four, and to debut at only 14 – that’s the sort of thing you’d expect from a vague movie tie-in, not of one of the most hyped titles of the year.
