Your Vita is Ready for PlayStation 4

psvita

A new update for the PlayStation Vita might not seem to do very much right now, but it actually contains an awful lot. If you’re planning to buy a PlayStation 4 over the coming weeks, today’s Vita update prepares your handheld for many of the cross-platform features Sony have previously announced.

Vita update 3.00’s biggest change is that you’ll now be able to link your Vita to the PlayStation 4. This includes remote play and second screen functionality. Several other apps – trophies and messaging, among others – have been updated to allow Vita to display PS4-only friends and PS4 trophies. If you know anybody with their hands on a PS4, you’ll now be able to spy on them via the Vita.

There are a few other changes available as well. Content Manager now allows you to send things to and from the PlayStation 3 via Wi-Fi, a small but welcome feature that will no doubt change the way many people transfer content. The friends list has been updated as well, getting a new look. Minor changes elsewhere are also likely, so watch this space as more things are found.

PlayStation Vita firmware 3.00 is now available to download. For more details on the update, check out the PlayStation Blog.
