NAIRI: Tower of Shirin

Nairi just wants to find her parents, but she keeps running into so many other things she has to do first, like escape from a cat gang’s hideout for instance. Welcome to NAIRI: Tower of Shirin for the Nintendo Switch. This new adventure game has an interesting setup, but is it a good game?

NAIRI: Tower of Shrini is an Adventure game but also an interactive story. The player does not see Nairi walking around, instead the story is told from a first person perspective. Nairi does show up during dialogue with other characters (and in cutscenes) but thats the only time.

The game’s story does seem directed towards a younger, kid friendly audience but I really enjoyed it anyway. The dialogue is good and the puzzles are always interesting and often challenging. You do get a book that gives you clues about what to do, but it doesn’t spell things out for you so you’ll have to use your Adventure skills to make it through.

I prefered playing the game in handheld mode. There are couple of different control options there, such as using the touch screen or analog controls. I mostly used the analog controls because they gave you a better idea of what you can interactive with in the game. Though the touch screen controls are really good too.

The game can also be played via the TV and you can use analog controls or motion. I didn’t care for the motion controls. The motion cursor was very unwieldy. The game does look great on the TV and in handheld mode though.

NAIRI’s graphics are excellent and the characters, from Nairi to the cat gang to even side characters like Fake Rex, are designed very well. The areas you explore are nice too.

Overall, NAIRI: Tower of Shirin is a great Adventure/Story game. It has a good family friendly story, sometimes challenging puzzles, and excellent handheld controls. If you dig games with a good story and pure Adventure fun, then you should definitely check out NAIRI: Tower of Shirin!

NAIRI: Tower of Shirin gets an 8.0 out of 10.
