More Thoughts From Me #196: Do You Feel Super Lucky Punk?
Adam Roffel recently did a review of New Super Lucky’s Tale for the Nintendo Switch. You should check it out! The following is not a review of New Super Lucky’s Tale. Instead, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the game and whether or not you should pick it up. Wait. That sounds like a review. THIS ISN’T A REVIEW!
Once Upon A Time, there was a fox named Lucky who got separated from his sister and thrown into a book. He found himself collecting the pages from the book and trying to find his way home. Lucky would have to jump, hit things with tail, solve puzzles, beat bosses, and explore 3D (and 2D) worlds.
Yes, I’m talking about New Super Lucky’s Tale for the Nintendo Switch. I think this game was on some other system but I never played it there. I can’t compare this game to that game. I can only tell you what I think about New Super Lucky’s Tale for Switch.
And basically….New Super Lucky’s Tale is an absolute treat. Its graphics are colorful and very pleasing to the eyes. Its like someone decided to create a Mario 64 meets Donkey Kong Country game but they left out all the Nintendo characters and instead put in a Fox, some crazy cat enemies, and….worms. I think those are worms. Other creatures too! The enemy and alley designs are really good in New Super Lucky’s Tale. I do wish there were a few more random baddies, but overall, I’m very pleased with the enemy design. The level design is absolutely mind blowing.
New Super Lucky’s Tale starts out being pretty easy and the difficulty does ramp up a bit later. For example, I am currently stuck on a frustrating, I-want-to-throw-my-Switch-across-the-room boss. Seriously. I think I’ll beat this boss sooner or later but at the moment I’m at a stand still. But I still love this game. There are many brilliant levels. I especially love the creepy Carnival and the weirdo worm farm place. That band was a hoot. I also love that this game has a lot of 2D levels. They remind me a lot of Donkey Kong Country style platformer levels.
I am hoping there’s an outer space world coming up. Mainly because I want to see Lucky in a space suit.
Oh! That reminds me. Lucky gets all kinds of cool clothes in this game. Think Super Mario Oddessy and all those clothes Mario got! My favorite is Lucky’s adventure clothes but I liked his beach gear too. But come on, Lucky needs a space suit!
I haven’t even mentioned New Super Lucky’s story because…well…its alright. Look this is a 2D/3D platformer. Its not going to have a great story. Though I do think New Super Lucky’s Tale has a better story than most Mario games. Thats not saying much though…
Overall, New Super Lucky’s Tale is a real treat. This game belongs on the Nintendo Switch. I hope if it gets a sequel that we’ll be treated to it on the Switch too.
Thank you Microsoft, Nintendo and co. for bringing this game to the Nintendo Switch. If you haven’t bought it, get it now!
New Super Lucky’s Tale gets a….wait. This is not a review! Ugh. Sorry. This reviewer wants to rate everything. New Super Lucky’s Tale wasn’t a review game for me. I had to buy it. And it was worth it!!
Next week: Animal Crossing!
