The Last Guardian Still in Development, “Looks Pretty”
It’s time for that irregular check-in, folks. The Last Guardian is still in development, is in a playable state and, according to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, “looks pretty.”
It wasn’t the massive reveal that some had expected for the PS4 launch live stream, but at least it’ll do something to tease those that have been waiting so long to become reacquainted with what the title will have to offer. Geoff Keighley of GameTrailers TV asked Yoshida how development was going on The Last Guardian, who said he had played it recently and that it “looks pretty.”
That’s good to know, but not exactly breaking news. It always looked pretty.
The question is: how pretty? PS3 pretty or PS4 pretty? Keighley asked which controller Yoshida had played it on. He giggled and said that he couldn’t remember.
Read into that what you will, although there have been rumours that the long-troubled Team ICO title had moved the game across to PlayStation 4. In real terms, it’s neither here nor there, since we’ve never actually seen any gameplay, but it’d be nice to think a re-announcement might be around the corner.
The Last Guardian was first announced in 2009 and had already been in development for two years. It’s original release was due in 2011, and it’s until recently been considered vaporware. Sony officials confirmed earlier this year that The Last Guardian was still being built, but have yet to commit to a release date or show any new footage.
