Valve Trademark Half-Life 3
Valve have trademarked Half-Life 3, a move that will no doubt excite millions of fans of the series. This has so far only happened in Europe and there’s no more information about it available, so it’s probably far too early to be saying “Half-Life 3 Confirmed” but, at least of the surface of it, Half-Life 3 seems at least semi-confirmed.
It’s important to remember that this isn’t actually 100% true. It’s important to protect trademarks, as we saw in Bethesda and Mojang’s court case. What seems clear cut to you and I is far more complicated when you get a couple of lawyers on it, and when you look at it like that, it’s not so farfetched to think that the developer that made Half-Life and Half-Life 2 might want to one day use the phrase Half-Life 3.
That’s despite evidence over the last few years to the contrary.
Whatever is happening with Half-Life 3, there’s definitely things going on within Valve on the software side of things. We’re not just talking their shiny new operating system, either. Left 4 Dead 3 is definitely in development, and it seems it’ll be made in Source 2 (which was confirmed by Gabe Newell in 2012). Maybe after that, they’ll turn their head back towards Freeman and Co.
