Star Wars Battlefront is EA’s Big Shooter of 2015
With a new Star Wars film of the horizon and the Battlefront series well on its way to a revival, it’s a good time to be a fan of George Lucas’s sci-fi classics. Even better news is that it will be getting full support from publisher EA, who have said that it’ll be their big first-person shooter of 2015.
EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen announced how important the IP would be to them during an investor conference call.
That probably means that there won’t be a huge focus on March’s Battlefield Hardline, but it was always going to be something of a distant cousin when it came to advertising.
EA’s Star Wars focus is a clever one, not only because the gaming world has been desperate for an updated version of Star Wars Battlefront – helped on by rumours, leaks and closures along the way – but because the new film will provide more hype and advertising than EA could ever manage on its own. If the timing is right, it will be the official “companion” game, and perhaps the first movie tie-in released alongside a film that’s actually worth playing.
While Battlefront may be primarily a first-person game, it’s already confirmed that the third-person segments will be making a return.
