Nintendo Working on Next-Gen Console
Nintendo’s Wii U is almost two years old now, and while the gaming community is perhaps split on how successful it has been, there’s no doubt that the Mario makers will be trying again in the future. That’s become a little more tangible today, with the discovery of a rather specific job posting hinting at what could beĀ in the future.
Originally posted here, the post has since been taken down. Regardless, the people of Neogaf and Crave Online have managed to capture the gist of the post:
-
The ideal candidate will have had experience working directly in a GPU architecture and design team with significant responsibilities.
-
Low power and SoC design experience would be a plus.
-
The candidate is expected to have good architectural insights and the ability to apply that for setting future graphics direction for Nintendo.
-
A bachelors degree (graduate degree preferred) in computer science/engineering or electrical engineering.
-
5+ years of lead or architectural role experience are required.
While detractors may want to jump to the conclusion that it means Nintendo are giving up on the Wii U, it’s way too soon to jump the gun. Sony were working on the PlayStation 4 since, more or less, when the PlayStation 3 was released, and it’s not out there to expect that the same could be said for Nintendo. Chances are, it could be three, four or five years before we even catch a glimpse of where this job posting may lead.
