Nintendo is Prepared to deal with Quitters in Super Smash Bros
There is nothing worse in online games than someone who rage quits. It sucks when playing sports games especially since games are generally one-on-one; it is less of an issue with first person shooter titles as the game will just get repopulated with another player. Super Smash Bros, both for the 3DS and Wii U, falls into the former. If one of four players quits, the game is altered for the worst.
Nintendo is apparently willing to deal justly with people who quit, whether it is on purpose – perhaps getting beat pretty badly – or by accident. It is possible for wireless networks to go down, or for players to accidentally slide their finger along the wireless button. Regardless, you will be punished; the system will prohibit you from connecting to an online game for a set period of time. Here is what your screen will look like:

This probably won’t deter chronic quitters; generally, when they quit they don’t want to play anymore anyways. However, it is hopefully enough of an annoyance to make some people think twice. After all, completing a four minute game is quicker than waiting out the ten minute punishment period.
Perhaps one of the biggest problems with Nintendo’s online system is that it is not as robust as Microsoft and Sony. On both those platforms, reporting players for quitting, or having the option to boot players that are not playing fairly, is a key to maintaining fun online play. While Nintendo doesn’t have those systems in place, this is the next best option.
