Indie Corner: Forced

In a video game generation that continues to move away from local cooperative play, it was nice to see a game come across my desk that would allow my wife and I to play together. And we did! Outside of some wonky controls, Forced delivers a great top down puzzle RPG game that is sure to delight those looking for something in between long titles like Diablo and Divinity: Original Sin.

In Forced, players work together to solve simple puzzles and tackle increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Each ‘world’ has a number of dungeons to complete; there is a fair amount of replayability of you attempt to achieve 100% – for instance, there is a gem to earn for completing the level in a set amount of time. At times, you will need to utilize your spirit guide to solve the puzzles. Sometimes, this doesn’t work as well as I might like.

I cannot say I am a huge fan of the control scheme. The game utilizes a top down view found in many similar titles like Diablo and Sacred 2. One control stick moves the character, while the other changes the direction he is facing. It feels unnecsarily difficult, so be prepared for a steep learning curve before you will fully appreciate the game.
