Grand Theft Auto V Out for PC Early 2014

Grand Theft Auto V Michael

It appears that PC gamers, particularly those among the (almost) 600,000 that signed this Change.org petition, are going to get what they want. As Eurogamer reported earlier, according to multiple industry sources, Grand Theft Auto V will be released on PC during the first quarter of 2014. Who these sources are is currently unclear, but it stands to reason that this news is probably accurate given Intel’s claim that they don’t expect GTAV to be just a console exclusive, not to mention all the various leaks and XML code evidence that PC Gamer compiled last month. Also worthy of note is the fact the very same thing happened with Grand Theft Auto IV, which saw a PC release a few months after its console debut.

The modding community should be the most thrilled about this. The technology in GTAIV led to some very interesting user creations, and I can imagine the sheer size and scope of GTAV’s San Andreas will be the perfect playground for more homemade tomfoolery. Not only that, but the cliché “good things come to those who wait” is appropriate here, since the current state of Grand Theft Auto: Online isn’t exactly smooth. Rockstar has been working around the clock to work out the kinks, but I expect that come January (hopefully sooner) everything will be in proper order, meaning PC gamers shouldn’t have to deal with their characters or save files being deleted. We can hope, at least.

Of course, this latest information should be taken with a grain of salt. Rockstar has yet to confirm these reports, so don’t be surprised if they send out some PR attempting to squash these rumors. If anything, this news at least gives the computer gaming crowd a glimmer of hope.
