Dark Souls: Prepare to Die to get Steam Achievements
Do you enjoy the painful masochistic nature of Dark Souls? Reckon you’re a big fan? Now, if you’re a PC player, you’ll get to prove it, with steam achievements set to be added to the public version in the coming weeks.
Although it’s not been officially announced, the code is fully viewable on SteamDB and, if you know where to look, there are glimpses of it hidden away within the Steam client itself.
Unsurprisingly, the achievements are identical to those from the PlayStation and Xbox versions of Dark Souls, so it’s unlikely that multi-plat players will see this as a reason to go back and play. For those that enjoy collecting the digital rewards on PC, however, it’ll be a great chance to revisit one of the hardest games of the last generation.
This could mean slightly deeper ramifications as well. Dark Souls infamously used the Games for Windows Live platform when it was first released. The inclusion of Steam achievements might hint that, like the Batman games, a change of DRM might be on its way.
Although this isn’t the sort of thing that necessarily gets a big press release announcement, you can probably expect further information about the Dark Souls DRM plans over the coming days and weeks.
