Capcom Cutting More than Half its EU Staff

Capcom have announced that they’ll be making redundant more than half of their EU-based staff. This follows under performance for many of the last released games, including Resident Evil 6, DMC: Devil May Cry and Lost Planet 3.

Although none of the three games were terrible, fans of the long-established Resident Evil and Devil May Cry franchises found things had changes too much. Lost Planet 3 failed to enter the top 25 at launch, despite it being a decent enough title.

Original reported on by MCV, Capcom issued a statement explaining the reasoning behind the redundancies.

Following a restructure at its US operation, Capcom’s European organisation is currently evaluating its structure to ensure it is in the best position to take advantage of the changing market conditions the industry is facing.

Changing market conditions probably refers to the sudden increase in focus on mobile titles, and on the change to next-gen which will naturally change the way games are developed somewhat.

No word yet on whether or not this has directly affected any titles, although if it had altered anything that had been announced and shown off, they’d have probably announced something by now. Other than that, it’s always a shame to hear about people losing their jobs and this seems to be on a rather large scale.
