Wii U Price Drops Again in UK
The Wii U is now available to purchase from Waitrose for £150 for the basic pack and £199 for the premium pack. This puts the basic pack at a slightly cheaper price point than the 3DS XL. Other supermarkets, as well as some electronics stores, may be poised to follow suit.
Although it’s quite a drop, it seems it may be the perfect price point for people to start buying. John Lewis, of which there are 43 stores throughout the UK, sold out of the basic pack yesterday morning, after they price matched Waitrose via their website.
Waitrose too seem to have sold out as well, so it’d be worth calling up your local branch and seeing if they’re renewed their Wii U stock before heading down there.
With sales that strong, other companies are bound to start selling at the same point, although none of the major retailers are yet to drop their price. It’s most likely to happen when Waitrose restock, so if you’re desperate for a Wii U and think £150/£200 sounds about right, give it a couple of weeks and they’ll probably be in decent supply.
With Christmas around the corner, the Wii U should see a small boost in sales (even though the recently announced 2DS may be a smarter option for some parents). If supermarkets can really drop the price to £150 across the board (£30 cheaper than the price that Wii was at its strongest), perhaps there’s hope for the Wii U in the UK yet.
