More Thoughts From Me #240: Journey to Vesperia
Lately, I’ve been playing a game on the Nintendo Switch called Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. I have played Tales Of games before and thought they were alright. I decided to get Tales of Vesperia because it looked good and it was on sale! And I’m glad I got it.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the Tales Of games. I played one on the Gamecube which I thought was alright. Very good graphics, okay battle system. And I played one on the 3DS that was okay but not that great either. So when I first saw that Tales Of Vesperia was on the Switch, I dismissed it. Yeah the graphics were really nice but I just wasn’t a fan of the series.
Then recently, the game was on sale. I looked at the graphics and read about the game a bit more. It sounded interesting. I had the money to get it and I was looking for a new rpg to play.
As it turns out, Tales of Vesperia is a really good game!
I love its anime style graphics and I’m not an anime fan. This game just a excellent to look to it. From the cutscenes to the gameplay to the overworld, everything is well put together.
And then there’s the game’s story and character, which I like a ton. Each of the characters has a fun personality and together they are just funny and pure fun. The story is pretty mysterious and takes them all over the world. I’m enjoying it a lot.
But what about the gameplay?
Well, the battle system in Tales of Vesperia isn’t my favorite battle system ever but I like it better than I liked previous Tales Of games. The characters being able to attack in the foreground and background is pretty cool. I am growing to enjoy the battle system a bit. I wish it was turn-based though.
Meanwhile, the game has wonderful exploration. There is so much to see and do in this game. I love exploring the dungeons and finding stuff. The towns are a real treat to look at and the overworld map is just amazing. It makes me think of classic jrpgs from the SNES/PS1 eras.
Overall, Tales of Vesperia is a very good game. If you love jrpgs and you don’t mind a more action-based battle system, then you should pick this game. It was more than worth the $14 I spent on it! What a sale.
I can’t wait to see whats around the next corner in this game.
Have you played Tales of Vesperia? What do you think of it? Do you recommend any other Tales Of games to me? I do have a PS4 you know.
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Its hard to pick a favorite character in this game, all of them are really good!
