FIFA 14 Knocks GTA From Top Spot
Rockstar’s latest Grand Theft Auto, a game some are already saying is the best title of this generation, has been knocked from its top spot on the UK sales charts in only its second week. Despite record sales, FIFA 14 has outdone its second week figures, claiming first place.
The champion of sports games has always done well though, especially at launch, and it’ll be interesting to see how these two titles battle it out over the coming few weeks. Will Grand Theft Auto V reclaim the top of the chart once the excitement for FIFA 14 has died down, or will they tussle until something else equally impressive comes in to steal the top spot?
It seemed that Grand Theft Auto V might be the game to sit at the top of the charts for longer than any other this year, but it’s been toppled almost laughably quickly. Titles like Metro: Last Light, Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us sat largely undisturbed for 6 or 7 weeks, which says more about braving an Autumnal release date than it does about those specific games.
Bioshock Infinite especially suffered rapidly declining sales, but so did everything else, so it sat at first place.
Grand Theft Auto V won’t get to break the record, but I don’t suppose Rockstar are too worried about it. They already managed to break a few more in the first week, and I’m not sure topping the UK sales charts would have made that pile of money any less attractive.
FIFA 14 launched last Friday in the UK, and has been out a week in the US. Next-gen versions will be released at launch.
either is likely to happen.
