Solid Snake might just be coming back to Smash Bros

solidsnake

There’s a few familiar Smash Brothers characters that have so far been mysteriously missing from the roster of the 3DS and Wii U outings of the game, but Metal Gear’s Solid Snake isn’t one of them. While definitely a popular character, the consensus amongst fans has been that he probably won’t make a comeback, because why would he? Snake hasn’t been in his own game on a Nintendo platform in years, and there’s no sign that that’s going to change. Don’t get rid of all your doubts just yet, but  new evidence on the official Smash Bros site might indicate the cardboard box enthusiast is set to return.

Now, it’s important to take this with a massive pinch of salt. There’s no leaked picture or mysterious, damning description in the official site’s footer or anything like that. What there is is a name – Nobuko Toda – hidden in plain site on the music page. Nobuko Toda  was the composer on Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and is currently working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. She also worked on Halo 4.

The only Nintendo-specific title she’s worked on is Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance – except she only actually worked on the Fantasia section of the game, meaning it’s unlikely that you’ll see Sora making an appearance.

Where does that leave us? Well, presuming she hasn’t been involved in incidental music for Smash itself – and there’s no reason to think she would be when there are several people working on Smash Bros who have been linked with Nintendo in the past – it might imply that there are a few songs from the Metal Gear franchise making an appearance, and why would Nintendo do that unless a certain character was making an appearance as well?

More interesting, the page specifically mentions Metal Gear Solid 4, despite Nobuko Toda being heavily involved in several games of the franchise.

There are a few other surprises on the list, and plenty of mention of Square Enix IPs, but nothing stands out quite as much as Nobuko Toda.
