Godus Scores big on iTunes despite mixed reaction Online
If you read reactions to Peter Molyneux’s latest game online, you’d probably try to steer clear. General reaction to Godus has been vaguely negative, attacking Molyneux’s promises (for a change), as well as the slow pressure to buy in-app purchases. Apparently that’s exactly what iOS users were hungry for, however, as the game currently has 1500 ratings and four and a half stars on the app store.
Oddly enough, there are no written reviews quite yet. Although Godus was released earlier today, nobody has bothered to actually provide text to back up their opinion. Almost 75% of the “scored” reviews are an overwhelmingly positive five stars, while four stars represents a little more than ten percent. About half that amount gave it one star. Without in-depth reviews, it’s difficult to know what accounts for this massive difference in opinion, but early reaction to the Steam version was mostly just people disappointed by the long wait time for buildings (which can be negated by in-app purchases) and general MMORPG disappointments, so it wouldn’t be surprising to learn there’s a mission that rewards you for providing a five star review. There was also talk about 22Cans suppressing negative reviews of the alpha build, although how much of that was just fan perception is hard to tell.
We’re going to be taking a closer look over the next week or so, so watch this space for GamesReview’s Godus coverage.
