Dead Island: Epidemic Announced
Deep Silver have announced Dead Island: Epidemic, a Zombie-based MOBA set in the Dead Island universe. Although little has been announced about this new entry in the franchise (there hasn’t even been any screenshots), more details have been promised at Gamescom from the 21st of this month, so watch out for that.
The press release also promises that information about the “Dead Island universe as a whole” will be unveiled, so perhaps information on DLC for Riptide, or perhaps even on a whole new Dead Island game.
Dead Island: Epidemic is a six player free-to-play PC “Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena,” designed to pit two teams against one another in a fight for survival. By bringing together several of the elements that has made the Dead Island series an unexpected hit, Deep Silver hope to revolutionize a whole new genre.
There’s an official website, but there’s not much there. You can sign up for a newsletter, but that’s about it.
MOBA games tend to either be built around a single set of characters (from the original DotA, but with the names changed) or on a group of more famous recognisable icons. How Dead Island: Epidemic will fit into that scale has, of course, yet to be seen, but here’s hoping that the developers behind it can successfully infiltrate the only genre not already completely overrun by the undead
