The Last of Us Sets UK Chart Record for 2013

The Last of Us Sales Record

The Last of Us has now spent longer at the top of the UK charts than any other game of the year. Naughty Dog’s latest has now been top of the list for six weeks, equalizing with records held by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and FIFA 13. While this is definitely great news for fans of the game, that it has set this record says more about the games that are releasing alongside it than it does The Last of Us itself.

The only competition last week, for instance, was Dynasty Warriors 8. While it’s a great game (and came in fifth on the charts, which is excellent for only a few days, as a niche title), it was hardly in a position to take on the likes of Mario and Luigi: Dream Team and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which scored third and fourth.

The biggest shocker in the top five was Minecraft: Xbox 360 edition, which just seems to keep selling and selling.

With its sixth week atop the charts, The Last of Us has outdone both Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite. With little else between now and October/November likely to give it much trouble, it’ll be down to old games on sale and waning interest to knock it from its place as top dog.

With Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty Ghosts due at the end of the year, The Last of Us is likely to not hold the title for very long. With that said, it’s definitely deserving of its current record.
