PS3 Games Won’t Carry Over to PS Now

A verified Sony employee has taken to Reddit, and has given out some bad news about PlayStation Now. Many have complained that the streaming service is too expensive, a problem softened by a rumour that current PlayStation Network purchases might “go over” to the PS Now. This Sony employee has said that that won’t be happening.

First, let’s talk credibility. For those unfamiliar with Reddit, it’s not unusual to have a mod confirm that they are who they say they are via private message. This might be by placing a secret piece of code onto a website, posting a picture with a hidden agreed upon message or, when things just seem to be getting too complicated, a simple photocopy of an employee’s badge. IWorkForSony has been confirmed by the mods, and so while that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be a little suspicious, this is more than just an anonymous message on the internet.

When someone complained about the cost of PlayStation Now, adding that the only way he’d use the service was if he could access titles he already owned (as had been previously rumoured), IWorkForSony jumped in to give the bad news:

Those rumors are wrong. Entitlements for PS3 games won’t carry over to PS Now.

 But that’s dreadful, isn’t it?

Yeah, I think a lot of people agree with. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t make business sense for Sony to transfer entitlements to PS Now. Streaming games costs them money.

It’s hard to argue that Sony would be losing money on the deal, but they’ll be losing even more in the long run if they can’t get people using the service in the first place. Now is doomed to die a death if the prices are too high, and if there’s little incentive to check it out.
