Paladins Impressions
Recently, Paladins came to the Nintendo Switch as a paid experience. Not too long after that, it was released as a free-to-play game. I downloaded the free version and have been playing it some. What do I think of Paladins? Is it a good game? Should you play it instead of Fornite? Here are my impressions of Paladins for the Nintendo Switch!

Paladins is a free download on the Nintendo Switch right now. So of course I downloaded it to see how it was. I enjoy Fornite a lot. I like Fallout Shelter. Nintendo Switch has brought us some interesting free-to-play experiences so far.
So how is Paladins? Well, its good but I woudn’t say its as good as Fornite and you can’t really compare it and Fallout Shelter (too very different types of games). Paladins is a smaller game in comparison to Fornite. The only mode I’ve played is the arena style combat mode and it can be fun.
In Paladins, unlike Fornite, you can choose the character you want to play and equip that character with abilities. Once in the game, you can choose to play in first person mode or in third person mode.
I prefer third person mode, however the game is very playable in first person if you like that.
Combat can be fun and depending on what character you pick, a big character or a smaller one, the combat will be fast or slow. Matches really don’t last too long, especially in comparison to how long they can last with Fornite. There isn’t anything to explore in Paladins, the game is focused on combat.
I like the game, but I don’t think I’ll be addicted to it like Fornite. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m going to delete it soon. The game just takes up too much room on my SD card and while I like it, I don’t love it. And there is one major problem that hurts this game and makes me want to stop playing it…
The load times before and after a match with Paladins are horrible. When you start up the game, there’s a long load time. Then it takes forever to get into a match. Once finished with the match, it takes forever to get back to the main menu and then into another match. The game runs great online but these long load times keep the Paladins experience from being fully enjoyable.
Paladins is a free game, but that doesn’t mean its for everyone. Some people will be able to look past the long load times and enjoy this game a lot. For others, the load times will stop them from going back or they just won’t be hooked on this very combat focused game.
I think, so far, Fornite is the free-to-play winner on Nintendo Switch. Its combination of exploration, building, and combat make it an amazing game that players get to jump into for nothing. Its hard to beat Fornite at the moment. Maybe someone will, but its not Paladins.
If you like arena style combat, then I’d say check out this game. It can be fun, despite its load time issues. Paladins isn’t an addictive game, but its another interesting free download. Maybe with some updates it could be better.
So have you played Paladins? What do you think of the game?
