RIP PS2. Last ever PS2 game releasing in September
At the ripe old age of 13 ‘console’ years (equivalent to roughly 91 in human years) it’s finally time to put the world’s most successful console to rest. While the PS2 was discontinued back in January games were still being released for the system throughout the year. The very last game coming to Playstation 2 is none other than EA’s Fifa 14 which is set for release in September.
During its 13 year life cycle the PS2 has shipped an impressive 160+ million units worldwide. It has introduced millions of people around the world to video games and is probably responsible for providing countless days/weeks/months and even years of entertainment to both young and old thanks to its vast amount of titles.
From a catalogue of over 4000 games more than 1.5 billion have been sold for PS2 including iconic classics such as Timesplitters (*sniff*), Tekken, Ico, Burnout, Metal Gear Solid 2, Gran Turismo 3, God Of War, Final Fantasy, Ratchet & Clank and let’s not forget its biggest selling game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which shifted 12 million units within its first 6 months on Sony’s system.
Fifa 14 may be the last game for PS2 but none of us will forget our first game.
So long and farewell Playstation 2. May you rest in peace.
