More Thoughts From Me E3 Special Edition: Mixed Feelings About Nintendo’s E3 So Far
Nintendo had their Nintendo Treehouse live today. It is the only event they are holding for E3 this year and they will be doing it tomorrow too. This first day of Nintendo’s treehouse was mostly about the new Legend of Zelda game. I have mixed feelings about this. Let me tell you what I thought! Welcome to the third More Thoughts From Me E3 Special edition. Its all about Nintendo.
I have very mixed feelings about today’s Nintendo Treehouse. I knew going into today that the Treehouse would be mostly about the new Legend of Zelda game. But, yet, there was a part of me that secretly hoped that Nintendo would surprise us with a few extras things. I could never wrap my mind around Nintendo showing the new Zelda game for most of the day. And then it happened and apart of me loved it and apart of me felt let down by it.
Today’s Treehouse Live started out really well. The trailer for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was shown and it was amazing. I was blown away. The game looked even better than I could have hoped. Then, Nintendo talked about Pokemon. They talked about Pokemon for about an hour. Now, I’m not a Pokemon fan. I’m sure there are people who really love Pokemon who enjoyed this segment. Personally, I found it really boring. I don’t care about Pokemon but I guess I could have sat through an action packed hour. But the Treehouse people kept pausing every so often just to analyze the game’s shadows and other stupid stuff. I’m sorry if this offends any of our Pokemon readers. You should know that this is just my opinion, but I think this was one of the most boring game related things I have ever seen. It didn’t make me want to run out and buy the game for sure. Of course, after that, Nintendo went back to the new Legend of Zelda game.
Nintendo spent the rest of the day talking about Breath of the Wild. I watched pretty much all of it and while I enjoyed most of it, it did feel like Nintendo was spending way too much time on the game. Yes, the footage looked amazing (graphics and the fantastic gameplay) and I can’t wait to play this game. I’d love to play it right now in fact! I think that Breath of the Wild could be the best game of E3. It definitly beat Sony’s Horizon: Zero Dawn in my opinion. But Nintendo needed to have more games to share along with Breath of the Wild. Its such a shame that Nintendo scaled back their E3 this year. I admit I’m looking forward to seeing tomorrow’s E3 a lot, but not as much as previous years.
Its going to be nice to see some non-Zelda games tomorrow. Nintendo will be showing off Paper Mario: Color Splash, Dragon Quest 7, and a new Mario Party for 3DS that was just announced. That all should be interesting, but I can’t help wanting more from Nintendo. Sony did such a great job with their presentation last night. They had so many great games and presented them very well. Nintendo, on the other hand, had one really great game (possibly the best of E3) and yet presented it in a very poor way. Breath of the Wild should have been included in a Nintendo Digital Event with other Wii U and 3DS games for this year and next. Even revealing NX at E3 would have been a great idea. I know we knew they wouldn’t do any of that at E3, but I can’t help being disappointed anyway. Where are the major surprises Nintendo? It doesn’t seem like they are trying at E3 this year…
I’ll be back tomorrow with another More Thoughts From Me about Day 2 for Nintendo. Will it be better? Will we get some surprises? I’m not sure. I kind of doubt it, but as always, I can’t help but hope that they will recover in Day 2…
What did you think of today’s Treehouse? Let me know in the comments!
More Thoughts From Me is the opinion of the writer and the writer only. I know for a fact that Adam Roffel loves Pokemon.
