Ghost Of Tsushima State Of Play
Sony aired a new State of Play presentation yesterday all about the highly anticipated: Ghost of Tsushima.
Set on Tsushima Island in 1274, the game revolves around one of the last samurai, Jin Sakai, during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The Mongol empire has conquered and devastated many countries and Tsushima is the final obstacle between the mainland of Japan and a huge Mongol invasion fleet. The island was devastated by the first wave of the Mongol invasion; the island’s samurai forces fought against overwhelming odds and were defeated. Jin is one of the few survivors of his clan. His world is shattered and he faces a difficult decision to continue fighting the way he was trained or use unconventional means. He is resolved to do whatever it takes to liberate Tsushima. Jin will have to master a new fighting style, the way of the Ghost, to defeat the Mongol Empire and fight for the freedom and independence of Japan.
The stream focused on several different elements of Ghost of Tsushima, including the open-world exploration system reminded me of looking at the world when Breath of the Wild opened up. However instead of sometimes exploring blindly you can make use of the “Guiding wind” that will direct you towards story content or other points of interest throughout the game.
Combat was also featured in two different styles: Samurai and Ghost. Samurai style makes use of face to face combat featuring swords, deflecting arrows and parrying enemies before delivering killing blows similar to Nioh 2 (but much smoother and quicker in my opinion) . The Ghost style relies on stealth, gadgets and long-range weapons. Both styles can be enhanced by equipping specific gear. Your abilities can be enhanced by pairing the right gear with your style.
For those that are into these types of things there was also featured a photo mode with a ton of cool effects and filters to make some sweet screen shots and video highlights.
Overall the game continues to impress, and I for one can’t wait to get my hands on and Ghost away.
Ghost of Tsushima was originally slated to launch in June, but its new release date is July 17. The Last of Us Part II, Sony’s other big PS4 exclusive this year, will now launch on June 19 after being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, while Iron Man VR is coming on July 3. Playstation fans have a lot to look forward to in the next few months!
