Free DLC for Mario Kart is good for Fans
Nintendo may have finally delivered on their promise to licence out their favorite franchise characters. Yesterday, big news came out of Japan that Free DLC was coming to Mario Kart (currently Japan only) which includes a Mercedes themed kart. In appears that in return, Mario is making an appearance in the latest Japanese Mercedes commercials.
Free DLC, even if a product placement like this, is great news for Mario Kart fans. The reason is not because it’s free. The reason is because Nintendo is essentially confirming their desire to release DLC for Mario Kart in the future. Hopefully DLC like this will launch in Europe and the United States. Until then, fans can remain confident that Nintendo is planning something big for Mario Kart fans.
Although new characters, karts, and kart customization would be nice, I would be much more willing to part with my money for more tracks and real battle maps. These tracks don’t necessarily need to be new; in fact, I’d welcome the inclusion of complete Grand Prixs from the older titles, updated for HD of course. Pricing these between 2.99 and 4.99 would be ideal, although an other option is to provide single track downloads for a lower price.
Although a few issues would need to be wrinkled out, DLC for Mario Kart is a guaranteed money maker. In my opinion, E3 2014 will be where Nintendo announces their first Mario Kart 8 DLC pack. Hopefully, they do as they have done in the past and say, “Available to download now.”
