South Park: The Stick of Truth Trumps All in UK Charts
South Park: The Stick of Truth has done exactly what it deserved and has jumped to the top spot in the UK charts. Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman have leapt straight to first place, proving that a licencing attempt need not be a waste of money, and that constant delays are little in the face of a decent game. Of course, being a recognisable March release probably went a long way towards helping as well.
Also worth mentioning was Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. Although different from its predecessors and being online only, Popcap’s latest has stretched to number 3 in the charts, being beaten only by the rather mediocre Thief. The rest of the top ten largely consists of old favourites, with Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14 and Battlefield 4 all making appearances.
Another noteworthy addition to the list is Batman: Arkham Origins, which swooped in at number 17, most likely because Arkham Knight was announced last week. Aliens: Colonial Marines stays in the top 15 as well, perhaps proving that gaming companies could do with dropping their prices occasionally, especially if it’s a licensed game and it absolutely sucks.
It’ll be interesting to see how South Park and the likes of Call of Duty: Ghosts withstands the upcoming release of Titanfall, one of the first big AAA gen-defining releases since last November. Will it become a massive hit, dominating the charts for multiple weeks, or will it flounder in the face of other, cheaper alternatives?
