Nintendo sales for 2013
Nintendo announced yesterday that the Wii U and 3DS sales for fiscal year 2013, have slowed down significantly. So much so that they have had no choice but to revise system sales projections for the Wii U from around 9 million units to 2.8 million. For many years now Nintendo have found great success in the handheld department, unfortunately however even the 3DS sales have needed to be revised to 13.5 million units, a significant downgrade from the previously projected 18 million.Nintendo’s software is also failing to hit projected targets.
Having hoped to sell 38 million Wii U games and around 80 million 3DS games, now that expectation has dropped to 19 million Wii U games and 66 million 3DS games.Naturally these lower than expected software sales reports will lead Nintendo to take another loss this year, marking 2014 as a continuation in this downward trend resulting in negative profits.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admitted that it is now expected that our sales will fail to meet our previous forecast by a large margin. This comes as quite a significant blow for Nintendo, as president Iwata had previously expressed hope that 2014 would be the turning point for for recapturing past success.
