Assassin’s Creed 2 Dev: Shadow of Mordor Uses MY Code
There’s been a new video released for Shadow of Mordor, and it looks fantastic. Boy, we had good reason to be nervous, but it looks as though Monolith are going to deliver. It looks familiar, but given that it looks similar to one of the best games of last generation – Assassin’s Creed 2 – that’s no surprise. Perhaps a bit too similar. A team lead on Assassin’s Creed 2 has spotted a thing or two that shouldn’t be there, and is asking questions.
Via Twitter:
Seriously, can someone tell me how Assassin’s Creed 2 code and assets are in this Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game?

@missharvey this is *my* code in that game! I better at least see myself in the special thanks. WTF?

@SeventyTwo_ I spent two years staring at AC2. I know it when I see it.

There ARE striking similarities. The most obvious – for those that feel like disagreeing – is probably the run across the rope, with the hands back, just like Ezio. Still, from a gamer’s point of view, it’s going to be impossible not to be impressed, and if they can get the scripted feeling out of the dialogue, it’s no doubt going to be a hit.
Warner Brothers might respond at some point over the next few days. This story has taken off well enough that they’ll almost certainly issue a statement, probably saying something using the words “investigation” and “pre-alpha.” Watch this space
