More Thoughts From Me #242: Finding Andromeda
Recently, I checked out the Mass Effect Andromeda demo. I had never played this Mass Effect before. I didn’t know at first that I had just downloaded the whole game and I had a ten hour trial to check it out! And so I played the game for about 7 hours and I have some thoughts on Mass Effect Andromeda!
I have played the first couple of Mass Effect games. I liked the first one more because it was much more of an rpg and the second one was more of a action shooter. I know I’m in the minority on this opinion. So what did I think of Andromeda?
Mass Effect Andromeda is very much an action shooter but it still has a ton of things I like. The story, the interaction between crew members, and the dialogue choices continue to be some of my favorite things about Mass Andromeda. I love how you can create your unique player creator too!
I created a female character this time around. Usually I’ll create a guy character but when I looking through the options, I thought the women characters looked better and I created a woman character that I like a lot. Here she is:
And I like Andromeda’s story a lot.
In fact, the story was getting really good when the game told me that I couldn’t go forward in it anymore. I had to buy the game. Well, I’m not sure if I want to do that…
Now don’t get me wrong: I like the game’s combat. I like a lot of other things about the game too, like the game’s amazing Galaxy map and space travel. But there are a few things wrong with Mass Effect Andromeda.
For instance, sometimes the NPCs you are talking to will shake a bit. They will sometimes act a little odd too. I can get past all that though. I think the graphics are really great for the most part.
The biggest problem I ran into was a glitch with a mission. My allies were attacking…nothing. There was no enemy there. They kept attacking that. We’d go away from that area, but couldn’t find a way forward. I went back to the previous spot and my allies went back to attacking nothing…
So finally I looked up this glitch online and found out that it was a common issue. I reloaded an auto-save and did the mission again, this time completing it without the glitch.
I was able to get past this issue but…what if there are other issues further into the game?
I enjoyed my time with the Mass Effect Andromeda trial a lot, despite the issues. I kind of wish I could play more. I’d like to know what happens in the game next. But I’m not sure if I want to spend money on the game. Maybe I should just look up a Let’s Play video online…
I never encountered any glitches like this in other Mass Effect games. Its shame that that Andromeda doesn’t seem as polished as those other games. I had heard that it wasn’t but I was hoping that what I heard was wrong.
In any case, I wouldn’t mind playing the orignal Mass Effect games again. I’m really hoping that the rumor about the trilogy coming to the Nintendo Switch turns out to be true. Though I’d be pretty tempted to get theĀ trilogy on the PS4 if the Switch rumor isn’t true!
What do you think of Mass Effect Andromeda? What do you think of the series as a whole? Let us know in the comments!
