The NES and SNES had a lot of rpgs. So does the Nintendo Switch. There are many rpgs that try to mimic the NES/SNES too. Some are good and some are bad. 8-Bit Adventures 2 looks like an NES jrpg. Is it a good game? Here’s our review!

In 8-bit Adventures 2, a young orphan wants to help out the hero who saved him and his friends and gets involved in a world saving quest. The story sounds pretty basic for an rpg but there are some very interesting twists. Also all the characters are fun and the game’s dialogue is good. That said, the gameplay is absolutely the best part of 8-bit Adventures 2.

The world of 8-bit Adventures 2 is pretty big, there’s a lot of areas to explore including different towns, dungeons, and a massive world map. You’ll find items all over, including on the world map. There are no random battles in this game either. The enemies are visible and sometimes avoidable. Thats definitely different from most old school rpgs where you didn’t see the enemies and a very welcome change. Although it can be harder to level up sometimes because you have to look around for enemies, even on the world map, and there are not as many as you’d find in a random battle system.

As for the combat, its turn-based and just like an NES rpg, similar to early Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, you don’t see your party move and only see their attacks. There are some cool modern twists to the combat, like being able to swap party members in and out during battle. It’s a great combat system and the battles do go faster than they did on the NES or SNES.

8-Bit Adventures 2 feels like a tribute to the NES/SNES rpgs while also having its own unique world and cool twists on turn-based combat. The game is fun and fans of old school jprgs will want to check this game out.

8-Bit Adventure 2’s graphics look like an NES jrpg expect more detailed. There are also really nice drawn, non-moving cutscenes occasionally. This is a good looking game! The sound effects and music feel like something out of the NES era, in a good way, too.

8-Bit Adventures 2 feels like a tribute to the classic NES/SNES jrpgs while also having its own unique world and cool twists on turn-based combat. The story is not too bad, with some nice twists. If you love old school turn-based jrpgs, then you should definitely check out this game!

Thank you to PR Hound for providing a review code for this game. 8-bit Adventures 2 is out October 16th, 2024 for Nintendo Switch.
