Mars 2120 Review
The Metroidvania is a popular genre of the Nintendo Switch eshop. There are a lot of them. And now Mars 2120 can be added to that list. Is this a good game? Is it worth check out? Here is our review of Mars 2120 for the Nintendo Switch.
In Mars 2120, a solider is sent to Mars to find out what happened to a missing colony. The story feels and also unfolds much like a Metroid game: you see story progression occasionally but largely the game is focused on its gameplay. And the gameplay is also very much inspired by Metroid.
As you progress through the faculty where the large portion of Mars 2120 takes place, you’ll fight enemies, find out upgrades, save in save rooms, and progress through the game’s story. Mars 2120 without a doubt feels like Metroid, especially like Super Metroid or Metroid Dread. This is not a bad thing because Mars 2120 does the Metroid thing so well. The gameplay feels tight and offers a bit challenge especially with boss fights.
The game’s powerups give the game a bit of its own identity and offer some unique puzzles. The gameplay is fun and controls really well on the Switch. The game looks really good too.
Mars 2120 has good graphics, the enemies are especially detailed and neat. If you played Metroid Dread, then you’ll have a good sense of how this game looks and plays.
We keep mentioning Metroid over and over again because Mars 2120 really feels like a game from that series. The puzzles do help it form its own identity, somewhat, but overall, if you are a Metroid fan and you want more of that type of game, then you should check Mars 2120 out.
