More Thoughts From Me E3 2017 Edition: Thank you Nintendo

I was really disappointed in Nintendo’s E3 last year. Don’t get me wrong, I love Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but we just saw way too much of it and there wasn’t any other big games. This year, however, Nintendo has stepped up their game. And as a Nintendo fan, I really want to tell them this: Thank you. Thank you so much for giving us so much cool content this year. What did Nintendo do today? I’ll tell you about it and you’ll see why I’m so happy.

Day 1 of Nintendo’s E3 started with a bang. The Nintendo Spotlight video was short but man was it sweet. Nintendo gave us surprise after surprise in that video. A new Yoshi, Kirby, Pokémon, and Metroid Prime were all announced for the Nintendo Switch. Not only that, but we got new footage of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. I was blown away by both of those games, though Mario Odyssey definitely was the best of the two.

Nintendo didn’t forget their third party partners either and showed off a few of them at the start of the video. We found out Rocket League is coming to the Switch and many people seemed excited about that. There was another look at the Mario + Rabbids and that game continues to be one of my favorites of E3.

The Spotlight was amazing but it was only the start! With Nintendo Treehouse Live, we got two major 3DS announcements. One of those announcements, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, had been leaked and rumored. The other, Metroid: Samus Return, was a complete surprise! I’m so glad that title wasn’t leaked. I was completely floored by the new Metroid 3DS game and really want to play it. Though, I do want to play Mario & Luigi too. It was great to get both announcements.

Nintendo didn’t stop there though. Today’s Treehouse Live also gave us new amiibo announcements (that Metroid!) and extended looks at Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and ARMS. I admit I didn’t care for Warriors or ARMS, but it was nice to see more of the new Mario game, Rabbids, and Xenoblade.

My only complaint about Treehouse Live is that they spend too much time on each game. I wish we could have seen even more games today! Although, I suppose, that’s why we have Wednesday and Thursday Treehouses too.

Nintendo has said that there will be more announcements with Treehouse on Wednesday and Thursday. I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve. I’m hoping for even more 3DS games for this year (and next year?!). And of course I’m looking forward to seeing more of the Switch games too.

I’m a very happy Nintendo fan. I loved the Spotlight, I loved the Treehouse (yes even with my complaint I still loved it), and I can’t wait for more. Nintendo is putting on an excellent show this year. For me, Nintendo is the one who is “winning” E3.

What did you think of Nintendo’s spotlight and Treehouse Live today? Will you tune in tomorrow?

I will try to rewatch Sony’s E3 conference and provide a better More Thoughts on it this week. I also may have another More Thoughts on Nintendo if they show anything major!

Thank you for reading my column and please keep an eye on GamesReviews.com this week for all the breaking news and some opinions from us!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I need to go rewatch that Samus Returns trailer again! I have it on my 3DS!!
