Nintendo has been pushing New Super Luigi U in several of their Nintendo Directs and with good reason. Although it's more akin to a new game than a piece of DLC, they've basically done what people have been asking for since DLC became a thing: they're building an expansion where they could have simply added an extra character or a few new levels. How that will work out for them is yet to be seen, but it seems even Nintendo will be holding out on seeing the results before further venturing into the world of downloadable content.

Super Smash Brothers Wii U/3DS Announced, New Challengers Approach
That there were two Super Smash Brothers games in development was no secret, but it was still great to get that first look in today's Nintendo Direct. The cel-shaded 3DS version that looked nice and smooth, if a little rough when made to fit a TV screen, and the sharp HD Wii U version. These are both going to end up as top games on their respective consoles, if only by their doing more of the same, but with better graphics.

Sonic the Hedgehog is returning on Wii U and 3DS this year. Sonic Lost Worlds was unveiled at the last Nintendo Direct, although nothing about the game was revealed. That's changed now, with quite a nice trailer introducing the main badniks, as well as some new gameplay. It looks different. It's too early to tell if that's a good thing, although it seems like Sonic may actually be a little slower than he has been before.

To say the Monster Hunter series is big in Japan is an understatement. These third-person action RPGs are positively huge in the Land of the Rising Sun, so much so that they played a major role in popularizing the PSP. However, Monster Hunter Fever hasn't quite found its way to the West. It does have a devoted cult following in North America and Europe, but their numbers aren't large enough to make Capcom's beast slaying franchise a household name. Regardless, Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate (MH3U), the latest installment, has been generating some buzz and might ...

Read MoreEarthbound Heading to Wii U
One of the biggest things missing from the Virtual Console on Wii and 3DS has to have been Earthbound. The classic RPG, called Mother 2 in Japan, is constantly named one of the best games of the SNES era, and western players needed to either pay exuberant prices for an original copy or turn to piracy. That’s why one of the most exciting announcements to come out of yesterday’s Nintendo Direct had to be the fact that Earthbound is heading…
Read MoreZombiU Review
Ubisoft has been known to be at their most experimental with new console releases, and the Wii U was the perfect opportunity to pay homage to the first game they ever made – Zombi. Released in 1986 for the PC, Zombi was a first-person action-adventure game that takes place in a mall filled with zombies. The game's “hook” was that after a player died they would turn into a zombie and the other survivors would have to defeat it. ZombiU features a similar game mechanic, but this time Ubisoft was able to utilize modern technology to provide a more atmospheric ...

Square Enix have today confirmed that Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be getting a director's cut for Wii U. The game will feature full touchpad support and MiiVerse integration, as well as directors commentaries and in-game guides. They've also fixed many of the complaints about the base game: the boss fights have been re-hauled, the combat has changed, the AI has been improved and the visuals have been built upon to make this "the best looking" version of Deus Ex to date. The director's cut will also contain all previously released DLC
