Good components are a big part of having a great gaming experience. Fantasy Flight Games is one of the best in creating good components for massive miniatures board games, even if many of those components are made of cardboard. During my time with Journey’s in Middle Earth and Star Wars: Imperial Assault, I’ve realized that Fantasy Flight might be the best component maker in the business, and on a grand scale. Cardboard Tiles Both Journey’s in Middle Earth and Imperial…

First Hours in Imperial Assault are Promising
Recently, Fantasy Flight Games sent over Star Wars: Imperial Assault, one of their older miniatures board games centred in the Star Wars universe. Included in that package from Fantasy Flight was a copy of two of the many expansions: Return to Hoth and Jabba’s Realm. Over the weekend, I began my first long deep dive into the game, playing for about 5 hours in total. After just a few hours, can I recommend it? The best and worst part about…
Read MoreConstruction Fleet Sand Set 2-Pack Review
It might be cold outside, but my youngest son Lincoln has enough Kinetic Sand in his indoor sandbox to play with brand new CAT Construction toys. We recently looked at the Construction Fleet Sand Set 2-Pack ahead of this week’s March break, and Lincoln really enjoyed playing with this toy. The Construction Fleet comes with two CAT trucks to play with, which I really enjoyed. That meant myself or Lochlan could play with Lincoln, and each of us have our…
Read MoreThat Old Wallpaper Impressions
You might have noticed by this point that we don’t post review scores on our board game impressions / reviews. I do this for a specific reason – just because I don’t like a game, doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t like it. To that end, I don’t want a decent game that I personally didn’t enjoy, to get a bad grade just because I didn’t like it. I bring this up because That Old Wallpaper is one of the few…
Read MoreAgricola 15th Anniversary Big Box – Tale of Two Boxes
One of the very first ‘real’ board games I ever played (and purchased) after Catan was Agricola. I was mesmerized by the pieces, the cards, the boards, and more. It looked like a really great game, and as someone infatuated with farming video games, I thought a farming board game would be a lot of fun. Recently, Asmodee and Lookout Games launched a 15th Anniversary edition of the game in a big box - does it hit like it should? Let’s take a look.
Read MorePeach’s Castle Expansion – LEGO Super Mario
One of the things that has disappointed me the most about LEGO Super Mario is that most of the sets don’t really display all that well. These are LEGO sets meant for playing with, not just displaying. Sure, the various characters do look great on the shelf, but in general, entire sets do not. I do believe that the Bowsers Air Ship set probably would display well, but not many others. Peach’s Castle, however, displays beautifully (not on a 12-inch shelf mind you), and is fun to build too! Let’s dive in.
Read MoreThe Quest Kids – An Interview With an 8 Year Old
Over the past few weeks, we have been playing the outstanding kids game, The Quest Kids . This game is aimed at kids, but is fun for adults to play as well. We’ve played nearly half a dozen games of it so far, and I decided it would be unique to interview my son about the game, and see what he had to say. None of his thoughts are edited, these are purely his opinions! Let’s get into it!
Read MoreSuper Mario Movie Toys Review – 5” Figures & 7” Bowser
The toys that are being released alongside the Super Mario Bros. Movie are insane, and fans cannot get enough. For a long time, collecting the figures from Jakks was for two specific groups of people - the massive number of kids who wanted to play with the toys, and the few adults looking to collect. There was, and may be still is, a massive group of people who are not actively purchasing Super Mario toys - the gamers. And after the hype around these releases, I think Jakk’s Pacific has finally cracked the code.

7 Wonders is one of the most popular games on the planet right now. And it’s won a ton of awards as well. While many folks think about Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride when discussing the gateway in more serious and strategic board games, 7 Wonders should be on that list as well. Not only is it easy to learn and teach, but it is accessible, and each game almost always feels different than the last. This week,…
